Pure Silver Powder on Formica

Humanity continually lives in cycles of grief and mourning for whatever repeated trauma and suffering life may bring. In the midst of this chaotic tension, artists create new from the brokenness, from the slurry, and disrepair as an act of healing. A healing that is not forgetfulness but instead memories of pain that has led us to a new creation and hope for the future. Kintsugi, the act of reconstructing broken pottery, embraces that which was broken and recalls those memories with seams of golden lacquer. The premise of Eric’s artwork follows this ancient method as he forms elegant ceramic bowls, purposely breaks them, and finally repairs them with luscious streams of gold. His artistic practice also includes photography, painting, drawing, and printmaking, with each practice delving into the tensions that exist in our universe and embracing the chaos and unexpected outcomes, all while looking for beauty that exists in the broken.
